A Baby Shower on Film: Editorial Photography in Miami & Beyond

Baby Shower Maternity Portraiture on 35mm Film by Leeanne Drucker in Miami; 2026

There are certain celebrations that deserve more than a gallery of perfectly exposed event photos.

A baby shower is one of them.

It is the anticipation before everyone arrives. The dress. The flowers. The tiny details someone spent months choosing. A grandmother seeing the room for the first time. Friends laughing around the table. A hand resting on a growing belly. Champagne glasses, cake, perfume, sunlight, music, embraces, and all of those tiny moments that happen between the moments everyone planned.

That is where I come in.

I’m a Miami-based photographer specializing in film-forward, editorial photography for celebrations, people, hospitality, food, culture, and the wonderfully in-between. When I photograph a baby shower, my goal isn't simply to document what happened.

I want to photograph how it felt to be there.

Baby Shower Photography That Feels Like a Memory

My approach to baby shower photography is intentionally different from traditional event coverage.

I work with both 35mm film and digital photography, using each for what it does best. Film brings an organic quality, beautiful color, texture, grain, and a sense of nostalgia that can make an image feel like it already belongs in the family album.

Digital allows me to move quickly through the day and make sure the important moments are documented as they happen.

Together, they create a gallery that feels polished without feeling overly produced.

There is room for the beautiful portrait of the parents-to-be, but there is also room for the blurry dance floor photograph, the detail of someone's hand on a shoulder, the table before guests arrive, the mother-to-be laughing with her friends, and the photograph you didn't know was happening until you saw it later.

Those are often the photographs that become the favorites.

An Editorial Eye for the Details

Luxury celebrations are built from details.

The invitation suite. The floral arrangements. The tablescape. The cake. The wardrobe. The venue. The lighting. The little touches that make the event unmistakably yours.

I photograph those details with the same attention I bring to portraits and editorial work.

Rather than photographing every decoration as a checklist, I look for composition, light, texture, color, and atmosphere.

The result is a gallery that can feel less like traditional event documentation and more like a visual story.

Think:

soft morning light on the tablescape.

A flash photograph of friends laughing after dark.

A quiet portrait between the parents-to-be.

The tiny details everyone will forget they spent so much time choosing.

The people who made the day feel like theirs.

The energy of the room once the celebration really begins.

That's the story I want to tell.

Why Film Works So Beautifully for Baby Showers

There is something particularly fitting about photographing milestones on film.

Film has a physical, tactile quality that digital photography doesn't quite replicate. The grain, color rendition, highlights, and imperfections create photographs that feel lived-in rather than overly perfected.

For a celebration centered around family, anticipation, and a new chapter, that feeling matters.

I don't want your photographs to feel like they were made for one Instagram post and forgotten.

I want them to feel like photographs you find years later and immediately remember the room, the people, the music, the flowers, and exactly how that day felt.

From Miami Celebrations to Destination Baby Showers

I'm based in Miami, Florida, but I'm not limited to photographing celebrations within Miami.

For the right event, I travel.

That might mean photographing an intimate baby shower at a private residence in Palm Beach, a destination celebration in the Florida Keys, an elegant luncheon in New York, a weekend gathering in Charleston, or a beautifully designed event somewhere completely unexpected.

If the celebration has a strong sense of place, thoughtful design, and people you care about in the room, I'm interested.

Destination commissions are quoted individually based on the event, location, coverage, production needs, and travel requirements.

In other words: Miami is home base. It isn't the boundary.

What I Look For During a Baby Shower

Before photographing an event, I want to understand what makes it yours.

Who will be there?

What does the space look like?

What details have you been obsessing over?

Is the celebration intimate and understated, wildly colorful, formal, playful, or somewhere in between?

Are there family traditions you want documented?

Are there people who absolutely need to be photographed together?

The more I understand beforehand, the more naturally I can move through the event once it begins.

I want to be present without constantly making myself the center of attention.

That means giving direction when a portrait calls for it, stepping back when something genuine is happening, and paying attention to everything happening around the obvious moments.

The Photographs You'll Remember

Of course, I'll photograph the big moments.

The parents-to-be.

The family portraits.

The group photographs.

The cake.

The decorations.

The people who traveled to celebrate.

But I'm equally interested in everything surrounding them.

The grandmother fixing someone's dress.

The friend crying during a toast.

The little kid sneaking another piece of cake.

The couple taking five quiet minutes together between guests.

The flowers after everyone has arrived.

The empty room before the party begins.

The last photograph of the night.

Those images create the connective tissue of a gallery.

They turn a collection of event photographs into a story.
